Knowledgebase:
Windows Updates Fail (Lenovo Laptop, maybe others?)
Posted by rbTech Staff, Last modified by Steve Gilman on 23 February 2013 03:46 PM

Some models of Lenovo laptops seem to struggle with updates that appear to install, then fail and come back.  The current count is 47 updates that keep coming back.

Some googling turned up this article on the Lenovo forums, and in that was a link to the Microsoft Knowledgebase article acknowledging the issue and how to get around it.  We'd been looking at the .Net framework as the likely culprit, but being that of the 47 updates there were north of 6 that were related to .Net, it was very difficult to isolate the issue down to which was the problem child.

**Stems from a broken Windows update (KB2647753) which was causing 47 other updates fail. Install this update last by itself!**

Thanks, Microsoft, for another fine .Net related screwup that cost everyone time and frustration.

In the case of the Lenovo E530, I installed all updates except KB2647753, then installed this update last. Finally successfully got the Windows updates to take with none returning.
