How to add a new drive to an existing RAID array on an LSI RAID controller
Posted by rbTech Staff on 20 June 2015 10:13 AM

A simple operation that had me banging my head in frustration for a couple hours before I stumbed across the magic button in the (absolutely, inexcusably terrible) WEBbios.

Background: Existing server, running 4 drives in a RAID5 array.  Wanted to add a drive to the existing array, and expand the volume on the array.

Adding the drive is easy, it shows up as unconfigured good no problem.  But you have to go to the drive group, Properties, "Adv Opers" to add the new drive to an existing group.

Seems simple once you know, but not at all intuitive (and little out there on the Internets about it either).

Good luck!
